"Mary Looks Back at Bethlehem" is the title of the Wednesday evening Advent study which begins after the 5:30pm Family Meal. This series is hosted by Rev. Adam Hamilton and takes a look at the birth of Christ through the eys of his mother, Mary. Interestingly, that perspetive begins at the cross and concludes with the birth of the Holy Child. Because the video hosted by Adam Hamilton is followed by discussion time, there is no need for a book. However, books are available through Cokesbury. Please join us for the study and for the Family Meal on Wednesday evenings. The study itself begins at 5:50pm. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Linda at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Awaiting the Already by Magrey R. deVaga will be offered during Sunday School hour beginning November 29. We are invited to journey toward the birth of Christ through the words of the gospel writers, a different one each week, and finally hearing the words of Titus as well.
Comparing each narrative as though waiting for the coming of the Promised One, our Savior, as photographs waiting to be developed, deVaga writes, “Of all the seasons of the Christian Year [Advent] best captures the dynamic tension between the past and the future, in a way that fills us with hopeful anticipation in the present. When we journey to Bethlehem, it’s not that we think Jesus has not been born, and it’s not that we believe Jesus will come again. It is about opening a freshly developed set of photographs, and allowing the past and the future to amaze us again in the present, as if the arrival of Jesus were happening for the very first time. Advent is not a time of pretending that Jesus has never been born; it is a time of preparing for what that birth might mean for us today. It is not a denial, but a darkroom: a chance to allow the fullness of God’s love to develop in our lives and to be revealed in glorious Technicolor.”
Books are available through the church office at $7 each.
